Well here it is… My first blog post, yippee! The trip is off to a strong start – My (Morgan)’s flight was canceled on Saturday due to Hurricane Ian. We lost power for about 12 hours and have had some lovely drizzle here in North Carolina, but otherwise everything has been okay. Now, the trip should get started on Wednesday, weather permitting. It’s a strange limbo feeling when you’re forced to postpone something you’ve been looking forward to, but the extra time at home with family and friends has been nice. So now, only two days until adventure begins 🙂
For those of you that don’t know, for the first month of this journey, I am going to be a medical volunteer in Cusco, Peru. Assignments vary based on what type of care is most needed, so more details on this to come. Regardless of the details, I am grateful to be living out one of my dreams as a nurse: provide medical care as a volunteer in a foreign country.
At a lofty 11,500 feet, Cusco is known for its beautiful immersion in the Andes. I look forward to exploring these mountains and experiencing all that Cusco has to offer. I will also be taking Spanish classes for an hour each day. Learning Spanish has always been a goal of mine, and what better time than now? Meeting locals and appreciating the culture are important parts of this experience, especially as it is my first time living in a different country.
I am excited, nervous, open-minded, and ready. ¡Vámonos!
