And so it begins

I have officially arrived in Cusco! Woo!! I spent last night in a hotel in Lima and flew into Cusco this morning. I was a little nervous as it was my first time traveling solo, but everything went smoothly.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my accommodations through the volunteer program are a home stay! I have lovely “host parents” and a nice roommate that is also a volunteer here. The host parents don’t speak much English, so I will be sure to get great Spanish practice.

I am already enjoying the local cuisine, including lots of fresh juices, Inca Cola (zero sugar banana flavored cola), plantains, corn, avocados, and of course, tasty coffee 🙂 My orientation to the volunteer program is tomorrow, so more details to come then.

Here are a few pics from the first day – my roommate and I went on a walk to explore the area. You will see the home I am staying at and a little of the surrounding neighborhood in Cusco.
